The Wequassett Inn, In The Early Days, Was A Summer
Campground For The Wigwam Indian Tribe. The Indian
Name *Wequassett* Means *Crescent On The Water*
In 1944, The Wequassett Inn Opened With 47 Guest Rooms.
The Inn Operated At This Size For 33 Years. In 1977,
Under Its New And Present Ownership, Construction Was
Begun On The Two Lower Tennis Villa Buildings, Along-
Side The Four Championship Tennis Courts. This Brought
The Guest Rooms To 67. The Great Demand For Additional
Conference Facilities And More Guest Rooms Prompted The
Addition Of The Last Two Tennis Villa Buildings With An
Additional 36 Guest Rooms And Three Conference Rooms.
